Ok, you may ask, why buy from JamJar.com? Simple price, value & cost.
Background:
I like many UK residents was sick of the inflated prices (+20%) we pay for
our cars.
I decided the my next new car would be bought through a european dealer & I
would get the best price possible.
I spent some months checking prices & deals throughout 2000, the main
problem I found was the import delay of some 3 months with some dealers. During
the summer of 2000 'Direct Line' who are
underwritten by 'The Royal Bank' launched their new
.com baby JamJar. The company was launched with a
heavy media ads campaign & I quickly applied for my personal 'glovebox'
login & started checking prices on their site.
Special Offers:
The jamjar site is well constructed &
has fully detailed online brochures for all models.
Jamjar differed from other dealers by selling
'SPECIAL OFFER CARS' with additional discounts & delivery times of only 10
days (Too good to be true!).
To my surprise & joy they were selling a range of NISSAN models & I
focused on a Primera 1.8S in Pearlescent Ocean Blue. The price quoted was approx
£5000 cheaper than the UK list price, it was bazaar that 2nd hand 2year olds in
the local paper were more expensive than a new zero miler!
The SPECIAL OFFERS can move fast, so I priced the Trade-In offered by JamJar
on my existing car but decided to sell privately. The guaranteed price they
offered was in the low range but not bad for an unseen 7 year old!
Before continuing I checked with two local dealers if they would honour the
Nissan 3Year Warranty. Both dealers had no problem with the warranty but asked
me to pop in & see if they could match jamjar. When I quoted the jamjar
price one refused to even try & come close, the other refused to believe I
had been given a valid quote.
Order Process:
The JamJar order process works like this:
After selling my own car privately, I finally placed my order on the 24th
Aug 2000.
I was quoted a delivery date on the phone of ‘no more than 10 days’, I
was therefore fairly confident that my new Primera would arrive during the first
week in September, but I was wrong! Jamjar with 'X' reg deliveries were over
stretched & after losing my new car tax disk & the famous UK fuel crisis
the car was finally delivered on Fri 15th September.
Final Delivery:
My final opinion of JamJar was saved by what I would call the ‘Jim
& Dave Delivery Road Show’, I have never met two more likeable gentlemen.
‘Jim & Dave’ were the final personal contact in the order process, &
if they are an example of the typical quality people jamjar employ then I am
sure the company will flourish in the coming months & years.
I fully expected to get the car delivered with a speedy 'sign-here', but I was never more wrong. The car arrived in a covered single-car transporter, the driver got out & said: 'Right Sir, let's get your Pee Green 1ltr Citren Saxon uncovered'. I replied: 'But I ordered Orange with Pink spots'! After confirming the model & colour, I was slowly taken round the car & over coffee shown all the little things that the brochure misses. They finally insisted I take a test drive to make sure everything was ok, so after 45mins & delivery sign-off they left another satisfied customer. You still have an additional no-quibble money back guarantee until the car clocks 50 miles. The car is then classed non-returnable, but how many dealers who would do the same?
JamJar Verdict:
My experience with jamjar was coloured by the UK fuel crisis &
the fact that they were a very busy with 'X' reg deliveries. The price I paid
was unmatched by any other import dealer & a wait of 3 weeks justified the savings
made. I would use them again & can confirm that every person I contacted @ jamjar was polite,
well mannered and did their best to answer my queries.
